STOP THE EXECUTION OF DEXTER JOHNSON
The state of Texas plans to execute Dexter Johnson on Thursday, August 15, 2019 for the 2006 rape and murder of Maria Aparece.
Dexter Johnson was denied by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals for habeas relief on his Fifth Amendment claim, as well as for his application for a certificate of appealability. He suffers from schizophrenia and severe brain damage following a childhood injury. His counsel argues these conditions rendered him mentally ill and removes his moral culpability in the case.
This letter we're asking you to send is a little different than the usual clemency letters. In this case, Mr. Johnson's attorneys have advised CMN that letters to the Board of Pardons and Paroles regarding Mr. Johnson may be more of hindrance than a help.
We still need your voice! For this action, instead of sending a letter asking specifically for Mr Johnson's execution to be halted, join Catholic Mobilizing Network in urging the state of Texas to halt the cumulative ten executions scheduled to be carried out in the next four months.
