STOP THE EXECUTION OF RODNEY REED
The state of Texas plans to execute Rodney Reed on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 for the murder of Stacy Stites.
Mr. Reed has always maintained his innocence, yet the state has denied his requests for additional DNA testing in his case. Three forensic experts have submitted affidavits stating that Stacy Stites' originally reported time of death is inaccurate, which makes the timeline used to convict Mr. Reed implausible. Additionally, new witnesses, including Ms. Stites’ own cousin, have come forward and corroborated Mr. Reed's account of his relationship with Ms. Stites.
The Catholic Church teaches that the death penalty is unacceptable in all cases because it is "an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person." (Catholic Catechism 2267)
It is especially reprehensible that Rodney Reed could be executed for a crime that he did not commit.
We invite you to raise your voice in opposition to this execution by sending this prepared letter to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles. Join us in building a culture of life.
