STOP THE EXECUTION OF BILLY JACK CRUTSINGER
The state of Texas plans to execute Billy Jack Crutsinger on Wednesday, September 4th, 2019 for the stabbing of murder of 89-year-old Pearl “RD” Magouirk, and her 71-year-old daughter, Patricia “Pat” Syren, on April 6, 2003, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Mr. Crutsinger has raised a claim related to ineffective assistance of counsel (failure to fully investigate or present mitigating evidence), but the courts have not found that persuasive. Both the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit have denied his motion for a stay.
The Catholic Church teaches that the death penalty is "inadmissible" in all cases and calls us to respond to acts of harm in ways that "do not definitively deprive the guilty of the possibility of redemption." (CCC 2267)
