STOP THE EXECUTION OF JAMES DAILEY
UPDATE: On October 23, 2019, James Dailey was granted a stay of execution effective through December 30, 2019 in order for his legal counsel to have time to present new and substantial claims of innocence. Catholic Mobilizing Network invites you to send a letter to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Commission on Offender Review urging them to grant a clemency hearing for Mr. Dailey.
The state of Florida plans to execute 73-year-old James Dailey on Thursday, November 7, 2019 for the 1985 murder of 14-year-old Shelly Boggio — a crime he likely did not commit.
There was no physical evidence linking Mr. Dailey to Shelly Boggio's murder, nor were there any eyewitnesses present at the time of the crime. Mr. Dailey's co-defendant, Jack Pearcy, confessed multiple times to being solely responsible for Shelly's death, and even signed a sworn affidavit admitting his guilt. The state used unreliable "snitch testimony" from jailhouse informants to secure Mr. Dailey's conviction.
Mr. Dailey has maintained his innocence for the more than 30 years he has spent on Florida's death row.
All eight of Florida's Catholic bishops have spoken up for James Dailey, urging Governor Ron DeSantis to halt the execution of a likely innocent man. "The direct killing of the innocent," they wrote, "is always wrong and an intrinsic evil."
Catholic Mobilizing Network invites you to raise your voice in opposition to the execution of James Dailey. Act now by personalizing and sending our prepared letter.
