STOP THE EXECUTION OF STEPHEN MICHAEL WEST
The state of Tennessee plans to execute Stephen Michael West on Thursday, August 15, 2019 for the 1986 murder of Wanda Romines and her 15-year old daughter Sheila.
The execution is scheduled to take place in spite of the recent controversy surrounding the use of lethal injection in the state, which has been known to cause prolonged and painful death.
Mr. West is a man with a long history of horrific child abuse and neglect as well as undisputed severe mental illness, including schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder, about which the jury was never informed. Without his medication, he would likely deteriorate to a point that he could become incompetent to be executed. While it unconscionable to execute anyone, it is especially heinous to execute someone who suffers from such a severe mental illness such as Mr. West
